Just got the email from Ten Club about Ed's solo tour. One line in the email has soured my pallet. "The base ticket price for all shows range from $150 - $162 + additional venue and handling fees".
Sorry but that's a huge turn off. Who does he think he is? He writes a bunch of dribble on a fucking ukulele and charges 150 bucks to see it. That's dick! I'll keep my ukulele moments reserved for dollar store Hawaiian albums and free library island music.
I just saw Mother Mother for 8 bucks and I was 10 feet from the F-ING stage! This ukulele material is way to dialed down for me. I'm really not enjoying the stage Vedder and PJ are in these days (re-release mode, making more money off shit we made 21 years ago). They are acting like rock stars. And I hate rock stars! I guess when one owns mansions and millions in equipment, one must do what one must do to uphold the life style. It's just hard to see any truth or heart in this stuff. The honesty and normal guy lyrics are out the window for me right now. What does he know about normalcy anymore? He's been famous and rich for years. You might as well be from Mars because there's no way he even remembers what regular life is like.
And of all places, he's playing the Tower Theatre in Philly again. I will now point you to
my review of his last solo show at Tower. Hey Ed, take your 150 dollar ticket and stick it! Figure out another way to finance your life style, because this music lover isn't going to budget for your presence anymore.
I don't hate on a man for making money, but Ed is the king of hypocrisy. 20 years of his anti corporate nonsense, forcing venues to cover any ads in the building when they play a show, to then playing gigs for their rich friends and playing concerts for Target employees. They have definetely changed. I still feel their music but a lot of it is completely unrelatable to me at this point. Green Disease, Unemployable, Soon Forget, etc...
ReplyDeleteI relate more to his family man type music now that I'm, well, a family man.
He still has some magic but I'm with you on this one Tony.
Yehudah
Eddie's my idol......
ReplyDeletebut at 150-162 how can I even take my girl to a show $324+parking 20 or 30 bucks, $350 for a nite out???? Remember the ticketmaster stand-off the under 35 dollar ticket????? What the hell has happened?
Preach on Anonymous! That's the price of fame I guess. They are the same physical people they were when they had the Ticketbastard showdown yet today his repertoire is worth like 1300% more, that is if you remember the days of the 25 dollar ticket. 1300% more, and you thought Wall Street was bad? Funny, its a wonder why kids want to be musicians....is it the music or the $$$$$ signs? I wonder? At least, to Ed and the band we can see its not about the music these days. Unless you like paying 1300% more to see live music. Now if there albums start costing 1300% more, Houston...we have a problem! The main point I want to show here is that even though DL'ing of music has taken a lot out of the pockets of record companies, you don't see albums costing $210. Take 15 (average price of a CD) (+) 1300%. Even though they are in somewhat of a bind, they aren't passing the cost to us. And especially in a time when there is such a thing as bandcamp. I mean, I did a post about how bands are just giving away there stuff on that site! And if its not free then its a name your price. PJ came up through the ranks when music cost money. Where if you wanted it, you bought it. They are millionaires many times over. Now, I'm not saying give it away. I believe a fair price for a quality widget is fair. But a 1300% increase in 20 years? A little much wouldn't you agree? So you ask, what the hell has happened? Well, for one...their generation of listeners are old and "rich" now. And their promoters know this. And if we "the poor" of this generation get left behind then so be it. They still fill stadiums, so just because we are priced out, its no skin off their backs. Also, there's more overhead to maintain the "brand" called Pearl Jam. It's a corporation now with investors. And all these folk intend on seeing a return! Mouths need to be fed! Also, they probably don't have that many years left, so ya gotta make all you can while your able. So fork it over Jamily, their lifestyle depends on it! I'll just stick to the CD's and reminisce in front of all my old show posters knowing that I got to rock out for 35 bucks! Total face melter!
ReplyDeleteJust FYI...that price is for a pair of tickets...still higher than $35, but yeah, thought it would help a bit to know that...
ReplyDelete1) $75 a ticket isn't ridiculous. As a matter of fact, that's in line with pretty much every other artist.
ReplyDelete2) That's not a mansion. Upper middle class house in a middle to upper middle class neighborhood.
Not a mansion? I'd love to be from the middle your from...because the middle where I come from is quite different...it's a middle where 75 bucks is actually valued...
ReplyDeleteFirst, I really don't care for his Uke skills, not a fan. Second, isn't the re-release stuff all on thier former record companies? Usually even for the bigger bands, the publishing rights are owned by the record companies. Finally I would never pay that much for a solo gig, especially when it's with a uke.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of the uke either, but hey to each his own. About the re-release stuff, isn't that on the record company? I don't blame PJ for the re release stuff either way, but doesn't the record company usually own publishing rights so they can do whatever they want with PJ's music........including re-releasing the same shit over and over. Oh and to the dude that said this is a middle class house, what planet are you from. Even if it were just a 2000sq ft house (which it is not), this house is probably located in some affluent suburb of Seattle, which probably means it is well into the 7 figure starting price...don't know any middle class folks that can even afford to rent a place like that.
