REVIEW :: I Am Not A Paper Cup :: MoMA STORE

I love coffee. I drink it every morning. More importantly I drink it from the cup that's pictured to the left. The "I Am Not A Paper Cup" by James Burgess, 2007 has been my Java mug of choice for almost a year now. Billed on the MoMA website as "an eco-friendly alternative to disposable cups, this double-walled porcelain version with a pliable silicone lid keeps beverages hot and doesn't burn your hand. Dishwasher-safe. Cup is microwave-safe." I have completely fallen in love with this inanimate object. I assure you, coffee from this cup tastes better, stays hot longer and helps the environment by keeping an extra cup out of the trash can. The down fall to this eco product is that no one will know the depth of your Al Gore earth crusade unless they mistakenly pick it up. To the laymen, you'll resemble a typical H2 driving, non-recycling consuming co-worker but it all ends the minute someone goes to throw "just another paper cup" into the trash can at the end of a work day. When they pick it up, it will have weight, it's not made of paper. They will be shocked and amazed and 9 times out of 10 will immediately ask "where did you get this cup." You can respond with any number of eco-friendly quips or just tell them MoMA sent you. Head over to www.momastore.org and do a search for I Am Not A Paper Cup and begin your journey toward eco-stewardship first thing in the morning. Then eventually progress into a more ridged regiment of bike riding to work, re-useable bags, local organic food purchase and waste recycle. Save the tree hugging for the professionals.
